Q&A

By Ilona Kauremszky

Q: We are planning a 4-week trip to Australia in November 2004. Any information you can provide for Australia in regards to tours would be greatly appreciated. Also, can we rent a car and explore on our own in that country? The language barrier would not be a problem in Australia, I assume.

A: Australia is big country. There are so many places and experiences from which to choose - from discovering sophisticated cities like Sydney and Melbourne, to diving the Great Barrier Reef, exploring the Outback and Aboriginal culture, to viewing Australia's unique wildlife.

A good place to start would be www.australia.com. The site will also direct you to the "Aussie Specialist" travel agent nearest you. "There are thousands of tours available and renting a car is a great way to see the country (remember driving is on the left)," says Anne Cousineau, PR representative for the Australian Tourist Commission.

As far as language, Australians have many unique and colourful expressions, but it is still English. No worries, mate!
