Q: I’m currently making final arrangements for our winter vacation and we will be flying on board Skyservice. Friends of ours who recently flew with them told me they had to pay for their checked-in luggage when they flew with them. What is the charge now?

A: Skyservice reports since September 19, 2008 changes to its excess baggage fees will be applied to passengers. If you are departing from Canada the excess weight will be charged at CDN $20 per kilogram. Currently, Skyservice permits two pieces of checked luggage. The company web site states, “Skyservice flights is usually limited to a maximum of 2 pieces the total combined weight of which should not exceed 20kgs (44 lbs).

The total dimensions of checked baggage (length +width + height) should not exceed 158cm for the 1st piece and 139cm for the 2nd piece not to exceed 20 kilos or 44 pounds.” Most likely your friends had exceeded their baggage weight and were charged as a result.
