Q&A

By Ilona Kauremszky

Q: How do you find out about the dream job that’s been advertised? It’s about an island somewhere. Could you let me know if they have chosen a winner yet? If not, when?

A: Queensland Australia has been running a large media campaign promoting the “Best Job in the World.” It’s a six-month salary package priced at $AUD150,000 (about $122,500 Cdn) for the 'Island Caretaker” role based on Hamilton Island in the Whitsundays and exploring the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef. Duties include posting a weekly blog, photo diaries and creating video updates about the unique experiences available on the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef among other responsibilities.

While a short list of 50 names has already been selected, the winner won’t be announced until May 6, 2009. Over 34,600 applicants sent in video clips. The top 50 candidates among them seven Canadians now have their clips you can view online at www.islandreefjob.com. The winner starts their dream job scheduled Canada Day, on July 1st.
