Q&A

By Ilona Kauremszky

Q: On my next road trip south, I'll be driving solo until I get to Florida where I'll be meeting up with friends. I've driven long treks before but I'm lost for ideas on things to keep me awake. Is there anything you could suggest to help the drive go faster?

A: Nothing makes a long road trip go faster than listening to a spine tingling good story or a jaw breaking thriller. Next time you head out on the highway south, be sure to stop off at the ubiquituous Cracker Barrel Country Store.

Currently there are over 500 stores in 41 states. While you get some good homestyle southern fixin's, try their chicken'n'dumplings platter, it's too die for, you are also able to order audiotape books. These items are stocked at every location.

With over 200 titles to choose from you can't go wrong. Here's how the folks at Cracker Barrel report it works: Buy a Books-On-Audio tape at any Cracker Barrel location (prices range from $13US to $48US).

After you finish the "book," drop it off at the next Cracker Barrel. They'll refund the purchase price, minus $3.50US for each week you've had it. Best of all, there's no membership.
