Q&A

By Ilona Kauremszky

Q: There are so many affordable all-inclusive deals to the Caribbean right now. I donít want to get stuck in a hurricane. When is the hurricane season?

A: The hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30th. If you decide to travel in an area known for hurricanes, there is a handy tip sheet you should follow available from the Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canadaís web site.

Here are some quick tips: Be sure to confirm your travel arrangements prior to departure and ensure that your travel insurance allows for trip cancellation/interruption in the event of a hurricane. Ensure that you leave a copy of all travel details with family or friends in Canada. This information includes the name of the tour operator, flight details, hotel name, location, room number and telephone numbers.

Leave copies of all your travel documents with someone in Canada and make sure that page four of your passport is filled out properly. For hurricane reports and tip information, visit the official web site for the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Consular Affairs at www.voyage.gc.ca and click on the link for Hurricane information.
