Q&A

By Ilona Kauremszky

Q: My six-year-old daughter has loved horses for a couple of years. I used to ride the carousels when I was her age and was wondering if you knew of anywhere I could take her?

A:

Considered one of the most prolifiic makers in America, over 30,000 wooden carousel figures are known to have been hand carved on the premise and afterwards they were shipped across the US, Canada, and as far away as Tahiti. The building and its fully restored 1916 carousel are listed on both the New York State and the US National Registers of Historic Sites. The Herschell Factory Carousel Museum is located at 180 Thompson Street in North Tonawanda between Niagara Falls and Buffalo.

Hours vary. Until June, the museum is open Wednesday through Sunday from 1:00 pm -5:00 pm. Summer hours are daily 11:00 am - 5:00pm. Price is $4US Adults and $2US for kids 2-12. For more info visit www.carouselmuseum.org
