Q&A

By Ilona Kauremszky

Q: Are there any cities extending Christmas lights this season? We would be interested in doing a weekend trip. Do you have any schedules you could provide us?

A: The season is all aglow with Christmas lights illuminating many towns across the province. For quick drives, consider Niagara Falls which has its Winter Festival of Lights on now through January 5. Over two million lights, plenty of illuminated night parades, fireworks and more are taking place. For schedules visit http://www.wfol.com/.

For weekend trips, why not drive to the quaint town of Morrisburg? About 60km south of Ottawa, the historic Upper Canada Village (www.uppercanadavillage.com) located here turns into a winter wonderland. Over a quarter million lights make this fairytale setting part of Upper Canada Villageís 8th annual Alight At Night Festival.

And donít be surprised when you finally make it to Ottawa. The Capital Region has plenty of holiday cheer you can view until January 7, 2009 with over 70 illuminated sites.

For maps and routes, simply download the NCC Lighting Route Map at www.canadascapital.gc.ca or drop by the Capital Infocentre on 90 Wellington St.
