Q&A

By Ilona Kauremszky

Q: We were scheduled to take a cruise, but now I've heard the company went bankrupt. What's going to happen to our tickets? I want my money back.

A: "If you booked your cruise through a regular travel agency and paid by check or cash, then the agency is liable to reimburse the consumer to the extent of the amount(s) received," wrote Michael Pepper, registrar for the Travel Industry Council of Ontario, recently in a message to registered Ontario travel agencies and wholesalers.

However, if you booked your trip on a credit card, Pepper noted that you should check with your credit card company for compensation. For more information, TICO may be contacted at (905) 624-6241 or 1-888-451-TICO.
