Q&A by Ilona Kauremszky

Q: Any free events across Ontario for a history buff?

A: Across Ontario you’ll find there are plenty of heritage sites which are part of the Doors Open Ontario program that offer a rare glimpse behind the doors to some of Ontario’s gems, our historical landmarks.

The Ontario Heritage Federation reports admission is free for all Doors Open Ontario events. This year’s Doors Open program started in April and is scheduled to end in October.

According to the OHF, since it started this year over 250,000 visits have been made to the historic landmarks which include theatres, museums, town halls, churches, and homes.

Here’s a condensed schedule on the upcoming program for some communities: Kenora September 9-10, Cornwall - Seaway Valley September 10-11 and Mississauga September 17-18.

For your free copy of the Doors Open Ontario guide call 1-800-ONTARIO (668-2746) or visit www.doorsopenontario.on.ca for a full schedule.
