Q&A by Ilona Kauremszky

Q: Does Albania use the euro? Iím planning a trip to Italy and will be flying afterwards to Albania in early November.

A: Unlike Italy which is part of the European Union, Albania is not a member. The Albanian currency is the leke. If you were to compare the Canadian dollar to the Albanian leke the currency conversion is as follows: $1-CAD is roughly 85-ALL. The banknotes are in denominations of Leke 5000, 1000, 500, 200, and 100. Coins are in denominations 50, 20, 10 and 5 Leke.

For best currency exchanges, itís best to visit a bank or use your credit card as the credit card company uses the daily bank rate at the time of purchase. Note that on cash advances interest incures the minute of the transaction.
