Q: I havenít traveled with my husband for years. While we missed the ceremonies at Vimy Ridge in France, we were hoping to visit Holland this summer. I donít have a clue on how to go about making arrangements. Is there a tour perhaps we could join?

A: Trip planning is always important and knowing where to look can make your life a lot easier. Seeing that you have pegged down your country of interest is a good start. I suggest contacting the Netherlands Board of Tourism & Convention which you can do on the Internet ( or by calling them at (212) 370 7360.

Their official web site is packed with details on events, attractions and trip suggestions as well. Here in Burlington Ontario, I have found an interesting organization called the Canada Netherlands Friendship Association.

They recently hosted an afternoon for an upcoming trip to the Netherlands. For their particulars, you can visit them online at Verstraete Travel and Cruises in association with the Canada Netherlands Friendship Association will be traveling to Holland this summer for a Holland Friendship Tour. The dates are August 20 Ė September 1, 2007. The 12-day tour will include a stay in the city of Apeldoorn with visits to the Canadian War Cemetery in Holten among other highlights.

I have heard there will also be a special luncheon hosted by Apeldoorn Mayor Fred de Graaf at the Palace Het Loo on August 30, 2007.

For more information and to request a brochure, you can call Verstraete Travel in Aurora at 416-969-8100 or toll free 1-800-565-9267. Details are also available on their website Verstraete Travel and Cruises is the exclusive Canadian agency for Thank You Canada & Allied Forces and Welcome Again Veterans Foundation and it was involved in the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Liberation of Holland in the spring of 1995 as well as the 55th anniversary celebrations in the spring of 2000.

In 2005 they also handled the travel arrangements for hundreds of Canadian veterans and their families traveling to Holland to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Liberation of Holland.
