Q: A couple of my girlfriends and myself wish to backpack in Central America early in next year. I'm worried about hurricanes. Can you tell us if possible when this season usually occurs?

A: According to the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, the hurricane season occurs from June to November in Central America. The DFAIT recommends that Canadians traveling in these areas should check local weather reports, and contact the nearest Canadian government office if they require assistance. "Travellers should check with their travel agent or tour operator to confirm their travel plans prior to departure," reports the DFAIT travel bulletin.
