Q&A

By Ilona Kauremszky

Q: It seems ice hotels are all the rage. But have you heard of any ice bars?

A: If you venture to Quebec between January 5 and April 1st (April Fools), you’ll find about 20 km outside the old walled city, a sprawling winter wonderland which covets the Ice Hotel. But inside the icy rooms you’ll find an ice bar open for business. Sip on Absolut Vodka in your very own ice cube glass.

Public tours are a great way for passing tourists to discover this unique winter architectural marvel. Guided 30 minute tours are available from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm in English. The tours are filled with interesting facts about the Ice Hotel. After a tour, you can discover the rest of what the Ice Hotel has to offer on your own.

Over in Paris, the Four Season George V (www.fourseasons.com) has opened its ice bar. Until January 15th, the posh property is serving up cocktails luxury-style. Picture plenty of black velvet fabric draped in this boudoir setting. For those of us who might not wish to spend a long time in the elements, this Paris Four Seasons venue has thought of a fast remedy. You can wear fur ponchos on loan from the esteemed KaufmanFranco collection (www.kaufmanfranco.com.) This designer dynamic duo are celebrity favourites for Sharon Stone and Beyoncé.
