Q: I will be travelling to Italy in fall 2004 backpacking, using hostels and staying with a few relatives. We would like to start at the north end and go to Sicily. Could you provide info on the Cinque Terre and how to get there?

A: The Cinque Terre area is one of the most beautiful natural parks of the country and according to the Italian Government Tourist Board, this area is considered a favourite destination along with Florence, Venice and the Amalfi Coast among North American tourists. For travel-related information on Italy and for the ins-and-outs of the Cinque Terre including details on hostels and other accommodation, you can reach the Italian Government Travel Office (ENIT) by mail at 175 Bloor Street East Suite 907 - South Tower, Toronto ON M4W 3R8 or by phone at (416) 925-4882. The ENIT also has a brochure hotline you can phone at (416) 925-3870.
