Q&A

By Ilona Kauremszky

Q: My boyfriend and I will be in Jamaica this January. Can you provide any info on the High Mountain Coffee Road Race?

A: Set in the lush verdant mountains of this Caribbean island, the High Mountain Coffee Road Race began in 1983 with a 10 km race.

Today, the race is reported to be the largest and most popular road race in Jamaica. Jamaica-Netlink.Com, one of the leading Internet resources on Jamaica, lists this annual event in its top 34 reasons to visit Jamaica.

It's been suggested that one of the reasons for the race's success is that over the years hundreds of visitors from around the world have arrived just to participate. The organizers believe that some participants were more inclined to run a shorter distance.

About five years ago, the 5 km route kicked off catering mostly to younger runners. The High Mountain Coffee Road Race entry fee is free.
