Q&A

By Ilona Kauremszky

Q: We are heading to Las Vegas in March. Can you suggest what to do and where to eat as we are only going for five days and want to make the most of our time?

A: If you’re going to Las Vegas for five days, you should see why the city was recently rated one of the Top 5 cities for restaurants in the U.S. (by Bon Appetit magazine in September). Picasso and Le Cirque at Bellagio and Alex at Wynn Las Vegas have both been named AAA Five Diamond restaurants.

Of course, there are dozens of fine restaurants in town from moderately priced on up. Meanwhile, Wynn Las Vegas is Las Vegas' newest megaresort and quite a spectacular property complete with its own exquisitely landscaped mountain and an in-house Ferrari-Maserati dealership. It, and other megaresorts such as Bellagio, Venetian, Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand, Paris Las Vegas, The Mirage, Treasure Island, New York-New York, Caesars Palace, and lots more are often destinations in and of themselves for first-time visitors to Las Vegas. They all have unique attractions, shops, restaurants and, of course, casinos.

As far as entertainment goes, be sure to visit the entertainment calendar at the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority web site, www.lvcva.com. Regular ongoing productions include four Cirque du Soleil productions (all completely different from one another), Blue Man Group, Broadway's "MAMMA MIA!" at Mandalay Bay, "Hairspray" at Luxor and "Avenue Q" at Wynn Las Vegas, Lance Burton's acclaimed magic show at Monte Carlo, impressionist Danny Gans at The Mirage, and a "La Cage" celebrity tribute artist show at the Riviera.

The list goes on. Be sure to check the calendar for any performers who may be doing limited engagements during your scheduled trip dates. Lastly, www.VisitLasVegas.com has all the information you need including a searchable calendar of events, lists of restaurants (which can also be searched by cuisine) and other amenities/attractions.

For phone inquiries, you can call the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority at toll-free (800) 332-5333.
