Q&A

By Ilona Kauremszky

Q: We’ll be in London at the end of the month. Any bargain places worth checking out?

A: With post holiday shopping in full gear this means you can take advantage of the amazing January sales on winter items. Prices will be slashed on old inventory to make way for the new. So expect lower prices on clothing, electronics, home furnishings and more. With over 40,000 stores and 83 street markets from which to choose in London, the pickings can get overwhelming.

The official web site for London Tourism is currently dedicating a whole page to the topic of January sales at http://www.visitlondon.com/city_guide/shopping/jan_sales.html.

The Internet site provides addresses, maps available for download and store descriptions. You can choose your shopping preference by destination like the West End or Covent Garden or by clicking on the City Guide shopping section.

Some streets worth a visit include Oxford Street, famous for its department stores, Bond Street for its boutiques and the traditional shopping area Piccadilly featuring some of the oldest British retailers.

Be sure to add the famous London department store Harrod’s (www.Harrods.com) for its famous winter sale. There will be racks of discounted luxury items including some of their signature products.
