Q: I would like to visit Cape Dorset, Nunavut this summer and participate in some summer activities. Is there any other way (ferryboat etc...) besides airway to Cape Dorset during summer?

A: Brian Webb Marketing Officer for Nunavut Tourism reports that there are a couple of cruise ships travelling through Cape Dorset as part of their itinerary. "But there are no boats that provide passage just to Cape Dorset which allow you to get off and stay in the community," he notes.

At press time, Nunavut Tourism hasn't received the names of cruise ships that will be visiting this summer. However, last year M/V Orlova cruise liner from Quark Expeditions www.quarkexpeditions.com and cruises from Adventure Canada www.adventurecanada.com arrived to Dorset.

For summer events, most communities will have some amazing festivals planned. "However they are rarely planned this far in advance, we call it Northern time," says Brian.

For summer activities, check back later with Nunavut Tourism. Information about upcoming events will be available at www.nunavuttourism.com or call toll-free 1-866-686-2888.

For general summer events, all communities will have events planned for Aboriginal Day scheduled June 21, Canada Day on July 1 and Nunavut Day scheduled July 9th.
