Q&A

Q: My husband and I are planning a first trip to New York City in early June and we are wondering if you can suggest any mid-range and inexpensive hotels? We are first time travellers and a little weary about picking from a book. Any tips you can give us would be greatly appreciated.

A: Often when we think of New York City images of Park Avenue with its swanky boutiques and homes of the rich and famous come to mind. But these days, visiting New York has gotten easier with plenty of venues offering discounts for the budget conscious.

Here are some budget accommodation options in NYC: In midtown, the newly redecorated Pickwick Arms Hotel is near public transportation and has 350 rooms with a roof garden.

For reservations call toll-free 1-800-874-0074 or 212-355-0300 or visit them online at www.pickwickarms.com.

The Quality Hotel on Broadway is located on the Upper West Side. The hotel has easy access to the subway with buses across the street and is walking distance from Central Park, Columbia University, and museums.

For reservations and more info, call them at 212-866-6400 or visit them online at www.qualityhotelny.com.

Over in the Theatre district, the Best Western President Hotel recently completed room renovations and is near such landmarks as Radio City Music Hall.

For reservations and more info, contact 212-246-8800 or visit www.presidenthotelny.com.

Another great resource for locating hotels in NYC at affordable prices is www.bestnyhotels.com. It lists 10 hotels including some of the ones I have highlighted.
