Q&A

Q: Before we go back to school, my boyfriend and I who are presently working wanted to take a short break north of Toronto. Do you know if there are any festivals coming up in the next couple of weeks?

A: Besides the 10-day Forest Festival (www.theforestfestival.com) set in the Haliburton Forest and Wildlife Reserve from August 22-31, Ontario destinations north of Toronto have many other festivals happening in the next few weeks. Until August 21st, the York Shakespeare Festival (http://www.resurgence.ca) in Newmarket is on.

In Barrie, the sixth annual Dragon Boat Festival (www.barriedragonboatfestival.ca) takes places August 22 with the big race scheduled August 23rd.

Also on August 23rd, Kincardine’s Victoria Park is the setting for the Mass Pipes and Drums Gathering Festival (www.kincardine.net). Come and help the pipe band celebrate 100 years. This annual summer fest is free and filled with plenty of entertainment along with an all-you-can-eat hot dog and corn roast. For more info you can also contact them at toll-free 1-866-546-2736.

Meanwhile over in Paris, Ontario the town is getting set to celebrate its 150th Annual Paris Fair (www.parisfairgrounds.com). Loads of performances, a demo derby, animal shows, and agricultural displays are all part of this festival mainstay scheduled August 21-September 1st.

For cycling enthusiasts, Windsor will be hosting Ontario's oldest competitive bicycle race, the 50th Annual Tour di Via Italia Bicycle (www.tourdiviaitalia.com) on August 31st.
