Q&A

Q: I was wondering if you could be of any help to me and and five girlfriends. We usually get away every summer for four days. We're trying to find someplace to go this year and I'm having trouble finding a spot to please all. Some of the wishlist includes golfing, spas, swimming, tanning, horseback riding and nightlife. Just about anywhere in Ontario is game. I was wondering if you knew of a web site, something, that can lead me to possibilities.

A: A virtual backyard playground, Ontario truly comes to life in summer especially when you hear the familiar sound of the cottage porch door creak open. For research tools, Ontario Tourism has an excellent web site (www.ontariotravel.net) that helps in travel planning anytime of the year.

Some suggestions regarding golfing include the luxurious Taboo Resort Golf and Conference Centre. Surrounded by 1,000 acres of rocky outcroppings and windswept trees, Taboo is a year-round luxury resort that also doubles as the home course of PGA winner and Masters Champ, Mike Weir. Amazing cuisine, five pools, a health club and horseback riding are some of the many summer activities. For more info visit www.tabooresort.com or call 1-800-461-0236.

Over in Huntsville, the Deerhurst Resort besides being the former homestage of the Grammy award winning songstress Shania Twain, there's plenty of nightly entertainment to keep you and the gals entertained. In daytime, you can switch gears and try one of the two 18-hole golf courses then finish off with a magnificent spa treatment. There's horseback riding, a tennis court and boating too. The 800-acre resort is situated along Peninsula Lake. (www.deerhurstresort.com or call 1-800-461-4393.)

Lastly, another neat excursion that would give the girls some bonding time is to explore the mighty Muskoka by boat. The Muskoka Lakes Navigation and Hotel Company runs cruises that ranges from 90 minutes to two days aboard the historic RMS Segwun, Wenonah II and Wanda III. Here passengers dine aboard but sleep in one of the posh Muskoka hotels. For more info visit www.segwun.com.
