Q&A

Q: Could you let me know where I could find some information on travelling as a woman?

A: Easy to download, Her Own Way: A Woman’s Guide to Safe and Successful Travel is available when you visit Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada online at www.voyage.gc.ca. Once you’ve reached the homepage, refer to the bottom right box and click on the sublink found at the Essential Resources section.

The e-book contains over 20 chapters with valuable topics such as The Pregnant Traveller, Dress Sense and The Mature Traveller. Tips include advice from some of Canada’s notable female travellers. For instance, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada encourages women to travel as she notes, ““Travel always gives us a fresh perspective and is truly a school of life. I would encourage all women to take the daring step of discovering how interconnected we are as human beings through travel. It is a journey of discovery that enriches our mind and our soul.”

Gillian Marx, marketing specialist with Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism, recommends travel. “Travelling is the ultimate education. It teaches us to see the beauty in our differences and how to accept them.”

In addition, there is a whole chapter devoted to more information on health, transportation and travel scams. For travel scams, consult with the Consular Affairs Bureau at http://www.voyage.gc.ca/main/problems/scams-en.asp
