Q: We're planning a trip to Cape San Blas in Florida this fall and are interested in renting a cottage there for almost a month. We've heard that it is possible to rent private cottages but we really don't know where to start.

A: In the cottage rental business, Anchor Vacation Properties provides a variety of accommodations year round along Florida's northwestern coastline. The cottage owners personally decorate the private properties so you'll get an eclectic mix of interiors. For a preview, visit the company's web site, a handy resource chock ablock of photos, descriptions, prices, virtual tours and contact information.

To help get you started, Kristy Branch who is the company president says once you've selected your community, "The only remaining decision is what type of accommodations best suit your needs. Properties are located "beachfront," "beachview," "intertior," "bay/canalfront" and many areas in between." Prices are based on size, location, amenities and owner preferences.

Long known for its seclusion and privacy, Dr. Stephen Letherman's Best Beaches Survey has listed the beach along the Cape among his 10 Best American Beaches. The gentle hook that curves into the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, Cape San Blas was once home to Native Americans and later the Spanish. Today, many Americans consider this part of the country as one of the best "get away from it all" places.
