Q&A

By Ilona Kauremszky

Q: My grandson will be taking up scuba diving shortly. Could you please provide some tips on equipment.

A: Pioneering ocean explorer Jacques-Yves Cousteau first introduced the world to scuba diving more than 60 years ago. His underwater films are legendary and his love of the sport was so big he and his partner Emile Gagnan created a powerful automatic pressure regulator. The result was an equipment company he founded called Aqua Lung America. (www.aqualung.com).

He made it possible to spend a long time underwater, paving the way for modern S.C.U.B.A. diving technology. Today, divers use fins, a snorkel, a mask, high performance regulators, buoyancy compensators (BC's), dive computers, wetsuits and many more products. Considered the best brands for diving, Apeks, Aqua Lung or SeaQuest are some of the names produced by the company.

For more details on the equipment and for store locations, visit the AquaLung.com web site. For scuba diver enthusiasts, a visit to San Diego would be worthwhile. Home of La Jolla Underwater Park and the Aqua Lung company, the area is an ocean paradise with arguably some of the most beautiful marine life along the U.S. West Coast.
