Q&A

Q: Please send me travel info you have on St. Maarten. I'll be there in March and would love to know of places to go and things to do.

A:

But you can also immerse yourself in culture, vibrant nightlife or shop along the newly remodeled Front Street of Philipsburg, the Dutch capital. For a dose of history, drop by the St. Maarten Museum on Front Street.

This recently restored 18th Century West Indian House has a breathtaking collection of Caribbean folklore and historical relics. Artists love the palette of rich colours that shine brightly in the tropical sunlight and as a result there are plenty of art galleries around to keep you busy.

For a list of galleries refer to Mr. St. Martin’s web site, www.mrstm.com. Jack “Mr. St. Martin” lauds the best of the island and invites queries from curious travellers. Send your requests directly to him at jack@mrstm.com or sign up for his online newsletter.

For activities and events around your chosen destination, check out the St. Maarten Tourist Office online at www.st-maarten.com. In March watch out for the 28th St. Maarten Heineken Regatta (www.heinekenregatta.com) scheduled March 6 through 9th, 2008.

Frank Hoedemaker, Commodore of the Sint Maarten Yacht Club says, “Participants from all over the world are entering the regatta and an expected 2500 sailors will grace the sunny shores of St. Maarten to sail, party, eat and enjoy the islands many activities. With over 250 entries in 2007 the regatta organization is expecting about the same turnout for 2008.”
