Q&A

By Ilona Kauremszky

Q: We’re not very sure of Hurricane Ike’s impact in Texas. Will this devastating hurricane tamper our travel plans there?

A: Fortunately many of the areas in Texas were not directly affected by Hurricane Ike. “While the Gulf Coast areas of Galveston, Kemah, Bolivar and Surfside have been significantly impacted by the storm, and Houston and surrounding area has been impacted to a lesser degree, the rest of the state remains "pen for business" and has sustained no damage whatsoever,” said Nancy Abbott, the Canadian account director for Tourism Texas in a press statement earlier this week.

Having said that, it’s still recommended that should you be planning a trip there shortly, the Texas Tourism Office recommends that you reconfirm any bookings for hotel and car rental before you leave. For more information on the impact of Hurricane Ike visit www.traveltex.com for regular updates.
