Q&A

By Ilona Kauremszky

Q: We are planning a trip to New Zealand and I wanted to call the hotel there ahead of time. I haven’t had a chance to make that long distance call yet because I don’t know the time there. Is there a way to find out how to do this?

A: Finding out times and dates in foreign lands when living on this side of the pond could be an arduous task if you don’t know where to look. One handy tool you might like to use is found on the Internet and can easily be downloaded. Called Time and Date, www.timeanddate.com, you can literally see what time and day it is anywhere in the world.

So for example, if you were planning on calling someone in Auckland New Zealand let’s say Thursday at noon our time, it would actually be an early Friday 6am call their time. I got this quick info by using their time zone converter tool. Simply select the time and location to convert from and then select the time and location to convert to. Once you’ve made your selection the calculations will be made. In addition you will receive some additional menu choices such as “Finding suitable time to call between Toronto and Auckland” and even the “Dialling Codes” available to place your long distance phone call.
