Q&A

By Ilona Kauremszky

Q: When booking a cruise what’s free and what do I have to pay for?

A: Generally when booking your cruise, the package includes your cabin, food, and on-board entertainment like nightly shows and daily bingo. Before booking your cruise make sure to inquire what taxes, surcharges and extra fees you will be responsible for.

Some cruises may offer complimentary non-alcohol but will charge for alcohol and bottled water. Also any shopping done on board as well as extra services like a spa treatment or a salon appointment for example a haircut or a manicure will be extra charges.

Lastly, tipping is another topic. Some cruise lines discourage it while other ones base it on the personnel and their services while others could include it in the bar bill. Many lines include a 15 per cent in the bar bill for service.
