Q: My son is interested in the tour de France. What could you tell me about it?

A: The Tour de France 2004 from Saturday July 3rd to Sunday July 25th will be comprised of one prologue with 20 stages and will cover a total distance of 3,360 kilometres. For complete itinerary info, visit and click on the English version. This historic annual sporting event takes France by storm and the best part, there are no tickets needed to view it.

Once your son has narrowed down his location, he should arrive early. However, since the Tour de France is so popular chances of finding a hotel in the most popular legs of the race will be difficult. The mountain stages are the most popular and spectacular. The France Tourism Office suggests your son try the larger cities in the area for hotels.
