Q: Can you tour the Washington monument?

A: Yes, touring the Washington Monument is free but you need to receive a same day ticket which you can obtain from the kiosk on the Washington Monument grounds at 15th Street and Jefferson Drive.

These tickets are issued daily on a first-come first-served basis. Hours for the ticket kiosk are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, but tickets run out early. Hours for the Washington Monument are from 9:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

You can also make reservations for the Washington Monument between 10:00 AM and 10:00 PM by calling 1-800-967-2283 or 202-432-7328 or visit http://reservations.nps.gov for online reservations.

Advanced reservations are charged a service fee of $1.50US per ticket, plus a $.50US handling fee per order.

Before your arrival, note that there the National Park Service does not have a storage facility so you should leave any personal belongings behind as the historic monument has a long list of prohibited items. These include strollers, animals, guns, ammunition, knives aerosol cans, mace, baggage or packages larger than 18 X 16 X 8.
